🟦 The truth, about why you are feeling hungry all the time , craving bread and always looking for a snack after eating

Have you ever finished a meal, put your plate away, and then found yourself standing in front of the cupboard looking for something else to eat?

Or perhaps you've promised yourself you'll cut down on biscuits, bread or sweets, only to find yourself reaching for them again.

I know that feeling.

That’s what happened to me too. I could not understand why I was feeling hungry all the time and craving snacks. I thought was just not disciplined enough to stop reaching out for biscuits and bread.

Today, many women I talk to as a nutritional therapist believe that resisting snacks is all about willpower, telling themselves to “be good” "just eat less sugar" or "stop eating bread."

Feeling hungry all the time and having cravings are not always about willpower. It can be your body telling you something.

🟩 What is your body really trying to tell you with hunger and cravings?

If you are often asking yourself, “Why do I feel hungry all the time?” “Why am I craving bread all day?” "Why do I always need a snack? -  here are a few things you should know.

The questions you may be asking:

🟩 Why I am I hungry all the time?

1: your food is not filling you up.

If your breakfast or lunch are something quick, like a toast, a cereal bar or a salad bowl, your body is simply not getting enough fuel to keep going. When you eat a meal, your body digests it and uses it as fuel to make energy. Protein rich meal gives you enough fuel for long time. Carbs only meal will give you only tiny amount of fuel, which runs out quick. When you are out of fuel, your body is sending you a signal “please eat”, making you hungry or reaching out for a snack.

2: You may be Tired and not Hungry

This one sounds unreal but is true. When you are tired or stressed, your bodies naturally look for quick sources of energy.

Research shows that bad sleep can push your appetite and cravings for easy foods, like sweets or bread.

Have ever noticed that you feel hungrier if you hadn’t slept well last night?

3: You brain may simply want a distraction

If you have been working on something for more than an hour, your mind may be just tired and wants a break. It tricks you into one thing that works 100% - food.

Your brain is telling you, “I’m hungry”, forcing you to have a break for eating.

🟩 Why do I need a snack after eating?

If you've ever thought,

"But I've literally just eaten... why am I looking in the fridge again?", you're not the only one asking this.

Sometimes hunger after a meal happens because the meal didn't contain enough protein. Or you ate your meal too fast, and your brain had no time to catch up with our stomach. Or your meal was just “empty” – made of quick carbs or just fibre.

Many women eat just salad for lunch, to “be good”. And, an hour later, they start craving carbs and needing a snack.

🟩 Why do I crave bread all the time?

Bread often gets labelled as “bad” food, many women want to avoid bread. Bread is mainly carbs, carbs are easy fuel source for your body. Sometimes, craving bread is your body's way of asking for more energy — especially if your meals haven't been filling enough.

Snack cravings can also be influenced by habit, stress, sleep and emotions, which is why it's important to look at the bigger picture

You can start craving bread when:

  • Your meals are too small and don't give you enough fuel. Your body runs out of energy too fast, pushing you to crave bread.

  • You're tired and need quick fuel source to keep going

  • You're stressed.

Craving bread is a clue. Your body may simply be asking for energy.

If you want to stop craving bread or sugar, the answer is not in more will power, is adding more to your meals.

🟩 How do I stop craving bread or sugar?

To stop craving bread or sugar you don’t need cutting them out completely.

In fact, I've found that the more you restrict yourself and try to stop eating carbs, the stronger your cravings get.

Instead of relying on your willpower alone and cutting out bread and carbs from your meals, try asking yourself:

"Have I eaten enough food today?"

"Was my last meal filling?"

"Am I tired?"

"Am I stressed?"

Those questions often tell you much more than the craving itself.

🟦 One thing I wish more women who feel hungry all the time, or crave bread all the time knew:

Feeling hungry all the time isn't something you should simply ignore. Cravings are and hunger are your body's way to tell you something important.

Sometimes your body needs more balanced meals. Sometimes it needs more sleep. And sometimes it simply needs a little more rest and kindness.

Get curious.

Ask what your body might be trying to tell you, look what you’ve eaten today, think if you had enough food and how good was your sleep last night.

The answer may surprise you.

🟦 One Last Thought for you

If you're feeling hungry all the time, or often need a snack after eating a meal, or your carbs cravings are just too strong to bear with, please don't just tell yourself to hold on and resist. Look deeper.

Very often, these are not signs of a lack of willpower. They're simply signals that your body needs something different.

The good news, small changes your meals, sleep and resting breaks can help you to you to reduce cravings and stop feeling hungry all the time.

In fact, some of the biggest improvements I've seen came from a handful of simple healthy habits that added up with time.
